Thursday, October 26th, 2017 – Day 2

SCHOOL DANCE – There is no school dance scheduled for this evening.  We are currently working out the details and will announce the date for the dance shortly.

 Minister Jordan Brown and Minister Heath MacDonald will be visiting our school tomorrow between 12:30 and 1:00pm to tour our school and meet with some of our teachers and students.

 *****Library – Any student who had requested a specific novel to add to the library collection can stop by the library and browse the new books that have just arrived. There are a few novels that still need to be processed, but will be available within the week. Any student who would like to make future book requests, can do so, by listing the novel on the book request sheet found at the circulation desk

 School Picture proofs have arrived and are due back at school Monday, November 6th. Retakes will be taken on Wednesday, November 1st.

 Wednesday, November 1st is Take Your Kid to Work Day.  Please get your forms in and we look forward to a great day.  Any questions, see your Heath teacher.

 Grade 9 band and the UPEI Wind Symphony perform tonight at THE DR. STEELE RECITAL HALL ON CAMPUS AT UPEI starting at 7:00 PM.  Admission is $10 adults, and $5 students.  See you there.

 Any grade 9 band students needing band uniform upsizes please see Mr. Nabuurs at lunch time

 Band students who ordered products on line during the magazine campaign please pick them up from Mr. Nabuurs at lunch time today.

 The Ice Cream Party for the band students who sold enough magazines will be held tomorrow at 2:40. Check the posters on the bulletin board in the outer band room to see if you have a check mark by your name.

 Hockey Academy- Grade 7 members will be going to Synergy Fitness today.  Students will be called down around 2 pm.  Please wait for the announcement and ensure that all school work is completed for homework that you may have missed.  The session runs from 2:30 – 3:30 pm and pick up at Synergy as soon as possible after that.  Meeting period 3 in Mr. Cusack’s room for grade 7 members.

 Girl’s Soccer:

The girls play in the championship game today vs. Birchwood at 3:45 at the Credit Union Place Turf in Summerside.

 Girl’s Field Hockey:

The girls play in the championship game today at 5:00 at the Cornwall Turf.

Girl’s Volleyball

The girls travel to Stonepark to play their quarter final game today.  They will travel by taxi and get picked up at the grade 7 doors at 3:00.  They are asked to leave class at 2:50.

Boy’s Volleyball:

Practice tonight from 3:15 – 4:45

 INTRAMURALS: Today will be outdoors.

 Bluefield High School will be hosting their annual Christmas Craft Fair, Friday November 3rd  5:30 pm until 9 pm and Saturday, November 4th  10:00 am – 5 pm.  It is located at 924 Colville Road Hampshire. Admission is  $2 and children under 12 are free. There are a variety of vendors featuring hand craft items, baked goods, decorations and more.  Hockey Academy – Grade 8 & 9 members will leave here today at 1:45pm (APM).  Grade 7 members will leave here tomorrow at 2:00pm (Synergy).  All members should ensure they have work from classes missed.

 Mrs. Cusack’s room will be open during grade 8 & 9 Lunch on Day 5  and during grade 7 & 8 lunch on Day 2 for Games with Peers.  Come choose a game from the shelf and socialize with other students while playing your favorite board game or card game.

 Yearbook Cover Design Competition: The yearbook committee is looking for submissions from students for the cover of the 2017-18 yearbook.  The entry must be submitted on a plain white piece paper ( 8 1/2 x 11). The artwork should demonstrate a connection to EWS. Make sure to include the name of the school and year (2017-2018) in your artwork. The use of colour is strongly encouraged. Please ensure your name and homeroom are written in pencil on the back of the sheet.   The submissions are due by Wednesday, October 25th and are to be passed in to Mrs. Tremere-Phelan in room 904.

Congrats to the Girl’s soccer team.  Last night they knocked off the first place SIS Owls in Penalty Kicks.  We did not miss a shot and SIS missed one and Emma Stevenson stopped on to secure the victory.  The girls play Birchwood on Thursday for the championship!  Lots of good solid play by everyone.

 FIELD HOCKEY: Congratulations to the girls on a terrific team win last night! Keera Vos scored with two minutes remaining and the Warriors held on for a 1-0 victory. Sarah MacEachern was dominant at the center-mid position and Kali Smith made strong plays on defense. Maddison Thompson had the shut-out. The girls now move on to the Provincial gold medal game tomorrow at 5pm at the turf.

PRACTICE today is at the turf, 3:30-5:00 pm.  Players, please dismiss at 2:50 and take Bus #171 at dismissal.

Fees:  Please pay your fees as soon as possible, or you may not be permitted to play other EWS sports.

 Jerseys:  If your season is complete, please get your uniforms back to Mr. MacAdam as we use uniforms for more than one sport.

 Schedule for tonight:

 Girl’s Soccer Play at SIS at 4:00.  This is a play off game – win and we go to the gold medal game on Thursday.  The girls will be leaving early in the 7th period.

 Girl’s Field Hockey team plays at the turf against Birchwood today at 5:00.  Winner moves on to Gold Medal Game on Thursday.

 Girl’s Volleyball team plays at 4:00 at EWS against Birchwood – regular season game.

 Congratulations to the Intermediate boys cross country team for capturing the Provincial Championship on Saturday.  Also, congrats to all runners who participated.

 Congratulations also to the boy’s volleyball team as they won the Kevin Campbell Memorial Volleyball tournament at Stonepark this weekend.

 Both volleyball teams will practice after school until 4:45 today.

 Girls AA Volleyball – Practice Monday 3:15 to 5:00pm.  Home game Tuesday 4:00pm.  Training team practice Monday 5:00 – 6:30pm.

 Congratulations to all runners who took part in this weekend’s cross country provincials in Mill River. Special mention goes to Aiden Ross (1st intermediate boys) and Colby Monroe (2nd in Bantam boys). The East Wiltshire intermediate boys Team earned first place and was awarded a plaque and banner.
Cross country running has ended for the season. See you next fall!

 On the weekend your Warriors Boys Volleyball Team won the Stonepark Kevin Campbell Memorial Tournament defeating Queen Charlotte twice. Keefe Marshall was named The Kevin Campbell Memorial Player.  Great teamwork and many great players.  Practice today after school!

 Girls Basketball – This Saturday 10:00am – 12:00pm. This is not a school team.

 Reminder that student fees are now due.

  Girls Basketball: Holland College is offering a Pre-season “Skills & Drills ID Camp” for female players in grades 7-12. An opportunity to train with and learn from ‘Canes players. Scheduled to take place Saturday, October 21 (9am-12pm & 1-4 pm) and Sunday, October 22nd (10am-1pm). Register by email: canescamp@hollandcollege.com   Cost is $60/player.

FINAL VISIT FROM THE CAVENDISH FRY WAGON THIS WEDNESDAY!  $2.50 FOR FRIES AND $4.00 FOR FRIES AND POP!!  COME AND SUPPORT YOUR FRENCH CLUB BY EATING FRENCH FRIES

 Congratulations to all students and staff who donated to our annual “Drive Away Hunger”food drive.  Our school collected 608 lbs of Food!

Classes that collected the most food were Grade 7 and overall school winner – MacKinley-Curran – 95 items collected. Grade 8 – St. Coeur – 68 items collected Grade 9 – Mr. Hagen/Tremere-Phelan – 25 items collected *Special mention to Mme. Deveau’s class with 64 items collected Prizes will be delivered to the winning classes next week!

 TRANSFER BUSES – Just a reminder to EWS students transferring at Bluefield, please be sure to travel on your assigned transfer bus.

 Girls Basketball – This Saturday 10:00am – 12:00pm. This is not a school team.

 Reminder that student fees are now due. 

 Compassion It Meeting will be held on Monday, October 17th, after school from 3:15 – 4:15 in Mrs. Cusack’s room.  Students from grades 7,8 and 9 are all welcome to attend.

Yearbook: Grade nine students that want to have their baby picture in the yearbook this year, can submit a picture to their homeroom teacher or email a picture to ewsyearbook@gmail.com. Please make sure to label the picture with the student’s name and homeroom class. The deadline for pictures is Wednesday, October 18th.

 Girls Volleyball – We had great results from both our girls School team and our girls Training team at the Queen Charlotte Volleyball Tournament over the weekend. The school team placed 4th out of 6 AA teams, and the training team finished 3rd out of 7 A teams. WELL DONE EVERYONE! Both teams will practice from 3:15-4:45 today. Please note the change from this mornings announcements.
