Friday, October 13th, 2017 – Day 1

 TRANSFER BUSES – Just a reminder to EWS students transferring at Bluefield, please be sure to travel on your assigned transfer bus.

 Girls Basketball – No basketball this weekend. This is not a school team.

 Reminder that student fees are now due. 

 Compassion It Meeting will be held on Monday, October 17th, after school from 3:15 – 4:15 in Mrs. Cusack’s room.  Students from grades 7,8 and 9 are all welcome to attend.

 Yearbook: Grade nine students that want to have their baby picture in the yearbook this year, can submit a picture to their homeroom teacher or email a picture to ewsyearbook@gmail.com. Please make sure to label the picture with the student’s name and homeroom class. The deadline for pictures is Wednesday, October 18th.

Mrs. Cusack’s room will be open during grade 8 & 9 Lunch on Day 5  and during grade 7 & 8 lunch on Day 2 for Games with Peers.  Come choose a game from the shelf and socialize with other students while playing your favorite board game or card game.

 Science Fair – If you are interested in joining the Science Fair Club, please sign up on the sheet beside Mme. Deveau’s homeroom. The purpose of this club is to guide students through a Science Fair project in preparation for the Provincial Science Fair that will take place in March.  Please sign up by next Monday, October 16th if interested.

 Athletic Fees are past due.  Please make arrangements with Mr. MacAdam to have them paid as soon as possible as we have bills to pay for fall sports.

 Tomorrow is our last collection day for the “Drive Away Hunger” food drive. All food collected goes to help our local Charlottetown Food Bank. A huge thank you to all students and staff who have donated a can to our collection so far.

 Congratulations to Faith Shaw for winning the Inspire Award at EWS.

 Congratulations to Madelyn Iwankow who was one of four winners for her poem in the Island-wide Poetry Contest! There is a concert at Confederation Centre on Nov. 19th to celebrate the winners. As well, for winning the contest she has also won a performance by the Atlantic String Machine here at the school

 Yearbook: There will be a brief yearbook committee meeting in Mrs. Tremere-Phelan’s classroom, 904, at the beginning of first lunch.  Any yearbook committee members unable to attend the meeting, please see Mrs. Tremere-Phelan at morning break.

All food donated will go to help out the Charlottetown food bank. The class that collects the most food in each grade level will win a prize! Last year we collected 1135 lbs of food to donate. GET COLLECTING!

 WELCOME TO STUDENT TEACHERS FROM UPEI WHO ARE WITH US THIS WEEK!!

 Girls Basketball – Everyone Welcome!  Will be held this Saturday from 10:00am – 12:00am.  If you have your own basketball , please bring it with you.  This is not a school team.

 Grade 7 Lunch Bunch – Meeting in Room 724 bring your lunch.  If anyone is interested in joining please see Mrs. Dixon.  The first sessions are learning to play guitar.

 Duke of Edinburgh – Sign-up lists are now on Mr. Galaise’s door for duties.  Please be informing one of the leaders of your rooming list groups of 4.  There will be a mandatory bike safety session at 1:30 on Tuesday.  Reminder 7:00pom Bluefield tonight.

 Gentle Reminder to all band students, students leaving their instrument on the shelf for a 4 day weekend can expect to lose 4 classmarks, 1 for every day it’s there. If you have a home practice instrument, you should mark that on the outside of your school instrument.

 Today is the last day for Grade 9 Band students to sign up for the PEI Intermediate Honors Band. Remember that if you put your name on the sheet you agree to be available the whole weekend of Jan 26, 27 and 28.  If you have questions, please speak to Mr. Nabuurs.

 GOLF TEAM – A huge congratulations goes out to both East Wiltshire Golf teams who won provincial titles yesterday in Summerside.  Competing for the girls were Individual Girls Champion Sara MacEachern, Hayden Ford, Chelsey Affleck and Bella Galaise.  Representing the boys was Individual Boys Champion Bradley Chisholm, Gavin MacDougall, Myles Grant and Nolan Murray.  Go Warriors Go!

 Mr. Nabuurs hopes to have all the prizes for the Band Magazine Campaign listed on the bulletin board in the band room.  The sheet to order your prizes off of the prize poster will be up next week.  The ice cream party will be later in October, The passes for the trampoline park will be passed out at the Ice Cream Party.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Tuesday, October 3rd, 2017 – Day 1

There have been a few cases of head lice at EWS this fall. A reminder to please check your children’s heads and if you require any further information, please contact Public Health Nursing at 902-368-4530.

Grade 9 Band students interested who wish to play in the PEI Intermediate Honors Band this year need to sign up on the sheet on the bulletin board in the outer band room BEFORE the end of the day, Friday. Remember that if you put your name on the sheet you agree to be available the whole weekend of Jan 26, 27 and 28.  If you have questions, please speak to Mr. Nabuurs by NEXT WEEK FRIDAY.

 Mr. Nabuurs hopes to have all the prizes for the Band Magazine Campaign listed on the bulletin board in the band room.  The sheet to order your prizes off of the prize poster will be up next week.  The ice cream party will be later in October, The passes for the trampoline park will be passed out at the Ice Cream Party.

 TRANSFER BUSES – Just a reminder to EWS students transferring at Bluefield, please be sure to travel on your assigned transfer bus.

 Duke of Edinburgh – Reminder to pick up your health sheet and information sheet at the office. Complete these forms and return your health sheet to Mr. McKinnon by Wednesday. Duke bike trip is Oct. 11th & 12th.

 Hockey Academy- All members of the academy are reminded that hockey pools are due this Thursday!!  Prize to be awarded for top seller.  If anyone needs more pools, please see Mr.Cusack.  If any students or staff would like to join, there is $1000 in prize money to be won!  Contact an academy member to join!!

 Reminder that student fees are now due.  Please pass in your student information packages ASAP!!!!!

 There will be an EWS Sing choir practice today after school until 4pm in Ms. Campbell’s room.

 Mrs. McKinley Curran’s class is organizing the annual “Drive Away Hunger” food drive and it is starting today. We are asking students, if possible, to try to donate one food item. All food donated will go to help out the Charlottetown food bank. The class that collects the most food in each grade level will win a prize! Last year we collected 1135 lbs of food to donate. GET COLLECTING!

ATHLETICS

Athletic Fees are past due.  Please make arrangements with Mr. MacAdam to have them paid as soon as possible as we have bills to pay for fall sports.

 Cross Country:  Good luck to the 46 EWS runners who are competing at the Zone 3 Cross Country Meet today at Charlottetown Rural.

 The EWS Girl’s soccer team defeated Queen Charlotte 5-1 last evening on goals by Emma MacIntyre, Taytum Vogan, Carley Thompson, Hannah Mills, and Janay Spence.  Emma Stevenson played very well in net for EWS.

INTRAMURALS: It’s time for our annual Homeroom Dodgeball Derby! Students may sign-up on the sheet provided to your homeroom teacher. The purpose of this event is to promote participation, fair play, and school spirit – everyone is invited to take part. Rules are posted in the lobby.

 FIELD HOCKEY: The girls were down a goal, but came back to defeat Stonepark 2-1. Maria McLane and Sarah Peters scored for EWS. Goalie Maddison Thompson played well to secure the win.  Game action again today at the turf at 4:50 pm versus SIS. Players may take bus #171 at dismissal or arrange their own drive to the field – ready to play at 4:20 pm.

 Cross Country –The Cross Country Meet is today @ 10:00am Charlottetown Rural.  The bus will be leaving shortly after O’Canada to transport EWS students to the Meet.
